The Vision for 2025

When we sat down before the holidays to review 2024 and plan for 2025, we decided to add a new approach to farming in one of the gardens. This is:

NATURAL FARMING

Beginning with the 2025 growing season, Roseanum Farm will be planting an area according to the the Natural Farming method. The Natural Farming method is closely aligned with organic, regenerative and biodynamic agriculture in that it also uses no chemicals, pesticides or herbicides and its methods sometimes overlap and coincide with the other three styles.

Natural Farming was made famous through the work of Masanobu Fukuoka.

Regenerative agriculture utilizes diverse practices such as cover cropping, rotational grazing and no-till farming to restore degraded soils, enhance soil fertility and biodiversity, sometimes with large amounts on human-supplied inputs (compost), and it can be fairly labor intensive.

Natural farming, on the other hand, avoids human-supplied inputs, minimizes human labor, is no-till and mimics nature. The goal with Natural Farming is to guide the nature to be in such harmony and balance that neither compost/fertilizer nor insect control is needed.

Along with Natural Farming, we will be increasing significantly the number and variety of perennial vegetables that will be planted.
