Serve multiple purposes. In the winter, the chickens live in a hoop house. When the hens are young, they lay all winter: possibly because of the extra light exposure.
A hoop house challenge is making sure the structure survives the winter. We are adapting the hoop houses to have full mesh ends for summer and full plastic wrap for winter.
