We use biodynamic guidance and principles in our work at Roseanum Farm. Biodynamic farming incorporates practices first indicated by Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian philosopher, scientist, spiritual researcher, and polymath. A goal of biodynamic practices is to enhance soil health, environmental health, and food health and vitality through a holistic approach to the farm and surrounding ecosystem.
This year (2024), we did a spring spraying of all garden and orchard areas with Biodynamic Compound. This is a mixture of seven of the important preparations – six compost preparations and horn manure. The compost preparations made from yarrow, chamomile, stinging nettle, oak bark, dandelion and valerian – plants understood to have healing qualities in traditional medicine. The horn manure is understood to bring about a relationship between the soil and plants. In the fall, all garden and orchard areas were sprayed with Pfeiffer Field and Garden spray, a preparation containing eight of the essential biodynamic preparations. These include the six compost preparations, horn manure, and equisetum.
